Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997)

Okay, I know all of my avid followers (lol) were really looking forward to a post on Draco Malfoy after I mentioned him last week. Well, apparently I have too many thoughts about that subject and I didn't have time to write them all out. So, for now, instead of writing about Bad Boys, I will write about a very and pure movie: Disney's 1997 Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella, starring Whitney Houston as the fairy godmother and Brandy as Cinderella.  This iconic duo absolutely killed the game. When it comes to nostalgia, I'm all on board, so with my sister in town this week, I decided to take a shot of serotonin and watch this movie. First, the best part of this is that this man is the biological son of  this woman and this man (couple goals). I love a good color-blind cast. It brings me a lot of joy, honestly, knowing they found the best person for each role, and not just the best white person. I just like to laugh about the fact that I didn't notice this at all when I

Phantom of the Opera: Apparently I Have a Thing for Bad Guys??

Maybe this blog should be a spotlight of bad characters who I believe deserved better. First Zuko, and now the Phantom. Maybe next week I should talk about Draco Malfoy.... stay tuned. This week I watched one of my all-time favorite movies, one of the first things I ever hyper-fixated on in media,  Phantom of the Opera .  My parents would play the musical soundtrack every Halloween as we carved pumpkins. How could I resist? (I'm starting to realize how much I have never changed... wow) Since the movie was rated PG-13, my parents told me I wasn't allowed to see it for another couple of years. I told them, "I promise I'll never ask to watch another PG-13 movie before I turn 13. Just please  let me watch Phantom of the Opera ."  They said no. I tried to listen to them. I swear, I di

Avatar: The Last Airbender: Is Redemption Possible? (Spoilers and too many gifs ahead)

When I was growing up, I thought the only people who watched Avatar: The Last Airbender were nerds. Truly... nerds. It was probably a coping mechanism to deal with the fact that I had no way to watch the show. My parents never had cable growing up, so I never saw a lot of things. Spongebob , Drake and Josh , Pokemon ... the number of inside jokes I missed out on.... rip BUT I've been told many times that I would like Avatar. "The storyline," they would say, "the character development," blah blah blah. They're probably just nerds. On top of that, I didn't have a way to watch it, so I was safe from anyone really expecting me to. I just said, "yeah we didn't have cable growing up," shrugged and moved on. Then, this summer, Avatar went on Netflix. Since 2020 seems to be the year of nostalgia-based coping mechanisms, many of us have gone back and watched old movies or shows. In light of that, this summer, a cute boy asked me to watch Avatar, a
